First off , this is for GIMP xD
#1. What i do is cut out the horse (white horses preferably are the easiest to recolour) SEE HERE: i45.tinypic.com/2lc1c06.png
#2. Then I make a new layer and set it to multiply SEE HERE: i50.tinypic.com/22khzq.png
#3. Now I'll choose the base coat colour for the horse and colour the entire layer that colour (in this case let's make it funky and pink!) SEE HERE: i47.tinypic.com/w9ctgw.png
#4. Now lets do some funky coloured markings on the layer that is set to multipy (I'll do Green, Blue, Red and Yellow) SEE HERE: i46.tinypic.com/28qxok6.png
#5. Now to make it look a little more natural I'll use the smudge tool and smudge the edges of the markings a little I set the rate at 20-30 SEE HERE: i45.tinypic.com/2rndlwj.png
#6. Now you can merge the layer down, draw your mane and eyes and TA DA ! A perfectly coloured horse =D
